Thomas Jefferson

"Peace with all nations, and the right which that gives us with respect to all nations, are our object." --Thomas Jefferson to C. W. F. Dumas, 1793. ME 9:56

Jefferson recognized that the best way for the United States to obtain peace was to promote and respect the peace of other countries. War is not always avoidable but our foreign policy should not be "we are going to war unless you can talk us out of it."

"Free people think they have a right to an explanation of the circumstances which give rise to the necessity under which they suffer." --Thomas Jefferson to Nathaniel Green, 1781. Papers 5:356

With the economy in the tank, unemployment at its highest since Daddy was in office, the country is at odds with our allies, and we are about to go to war, we deserve to know the facts and not be fed the reason of the week to preemptively invade other countries. Jefferson recognized that and the fact that more people are not demanding an explanation and are gung ho to go to war makes me wonder how many "free people think" in this country today.

James Madison

"I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations."

Fellow American Patriots, this was true then and it is true today. Mr. Ashcroft is the point man for eroding our personal liberties such as the right to counsel, or to not have the government shove their god down our throats. Little by little Mr. Bush and his cronies will take away our rights such as the right to sue companies that maim and kill us or to deny our right to speak out against them and their corporate masters.

Benjamin Franklin

"Educate your children to self-control, to the habit of holding passion and prejudice and evil tendencies subject to an upright and reasoning will, and you have done much to abolish misery from their future and crimes from society."

Mr. Franklin isn't advocating prayer in school or the ten commandments to be posted on school house walls. In fact it is quite the opposite.

Bill O'Reilly

"This does not give the government carte blanche to do anything, but it does give the government the benefit of the doubt at least until that benefit is proven wrong as it was in Vietnam." (Feb. 26, 2003)

EXCUSE ME? Are we supposed to wait through ten years of war and the deaths of over 50,000 of our men and women before we are "allowed" to doubt the government? How are we supposed to know if they are lying to us if we are not allowed to question them? Go blow it out your ass you unpatriotic blowhard.

John Ashcroft

"The Justice Department will spare no effort to preserve the rights of all our citizens to pledge allegiance to the American flag. We will defend the ability of Americans to declare their patriotism through the time-honored tradition of voluntarily reciting the Pledge." (Feb. 28, 2003)

This quote from Attorney General John Ashcroft is so misleading it is essentially a lie. The 9th Circuit Court did not outlaw the Pledge of Allegiance, they only said that when Congress added "under God" to the pledge in 1954 that they violated the Constitution by using the government to promote a particular religion. This man is essentially saying that we will enforce the desires of the Christian majority in this country to impose their religious fantasies on the rest of America. No thank you! Please keep your God to yourself thank you!
